P4/5

Welcome to the P4/5 webpage! Here you will find information about what we are learning and see pictures of our amazing work. All the children have settled well in class and are enjoying learning and having fun together. We have a very busy term ahead:

Numeracy

  • read, write, order, sequence and partition numbers
  • develop knowledge of addition, subtraction and multiplication and use our understanding in problem solving scenarios
  • make a big effort to recall number facts and multiplication tables quickly
  • recognise and describe the properties of 2D shapes
  • measure using metres and centimetres as standard units
  • recognise and use money in everyday situations
  • tell the time on analogue and digital clocks
  • collect data, present data on frequency tables and display on bar chart

Literacy

  • develop active listening skills and share ideas in group and class discussions
  • continue to learn and use spellings from the spelling scheme
  • extend knowledge of the use of capital letters, full stop, question mark and exclamation mark. Recognise and use nouns and adjectives
  • concentrate on reading for meaning and answering questions in guided reading.
  • read class novels – ‘The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark’ and ‘Stanley in Space’
  • examine persuasive texts, highlighting the key features before using in own persuasive writing

WAU

Our topic is ‘Reach for the Stars’. The children will be developing knowledge and skills in various areas of the curriculum – in art drawing and painting scenes in space, designing and making objects found in space, using ICT skills to research facts about the planets etc. Outdoor learning will take place where appropriate.

PATHS

We will be thinking about different feelings. We will recognise and celebrate each child’s unique personality through our daily ‘Pupil of the Day’.

PE

Children will participate in weekly PE lessons. No doubt swimming will be the highlight of the term beginning after Hallowe’en!
