P5/6

Hello everyone!

Great start to the new school year! The class has been working extremely hard across all areas of the Curriculum.

In Numeracy we have been working on our Place Value and times tables. We have also been learning about the properties of 3D shapes, lines of symmetry and how we can reflect different patterns and shapes.

With Literacy, we have been focusing on Persuasive writing techniques. So far we have sold our pirate ships and convinced our ship captain to allow us to bring a parrot on board. We continue to develop our reading skills using Accelerated Reading. We have been focusing on developing our writing skills by adding more detail and excitement to our sentences through the use of adjectives.

Our topic this year is Pirates and we had great fun during National Talk like a Pirate Day, where we learnt classic pirate phrases. We have also used laptops and IPads to research famous pirates and to create a travel poster for a famous pirate island.

This term we have also had the luxury of having swimming lessons at the Joey Dunlop Centre, which the children thoroughly enjoy!
