P4/5
Welcome to Primary 4/5: Where Learning is an Adventure!
A huge welcome to our new classroom page! Primary 4/5 is a space where learning is fun, engaging, and full of energy. We love discovering new things every day, and we are so excited to share what we have been up to.
Leading the crew this year is Miss Campbell, but she isn't doing it alone! She is supported by our two brilliant and supportive classroom assistants, William and Karen. Together, we are here to make sure every pupil reaches for the stars.
We have a packed schedule this term, full of creative lessons and important life skills. Here is a look at what is happening in our world.
Literacy: The Hundred-Mile-an-Hour Dog
We are diving nose-first into our Author of the Month: Jeremy Strong. We are currently loving his hilarious novel, "The Hundred-Mile-an-Hour Dog."
We aren't just reading the book; we are bringing it to life! We are doing creative lessons based on the characters and the plot. Alongside the fun, we are sharpening our writing skills by:
-
Completing weekly SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar) work.
-
Learning how to structure and write our own creative narratives.
Topic: World War 2
Our exciting topic this term is World War 2. We are stepping back in time to learn about our history and the people who lived through it.
We have lots of hands-on learning planned, including:
-
Learning about The Blitz in Belfast and VE Day.
-
Understanding the experience of evacuees and how rationing worked.
-
Examining real items and artifacts from the war era.
-
A creative construction challenge: building our own air raid shelters out of different materials!
Numeracy: Skills for Life
In Numeracy, we are tackling some big challenges and learning how math helps us in the real world. Our focus areas include:
-
Mastering long multiplication and division.
-
Working with money and understanding how it is used in everyday life.
-
Continuing to practice telling the time (analogue and digital).
ICT: Data Detectives
In the computer suite, we are focusing on handling information. We are learning how to collect data and input it correctly into software, specifically using Just2Easy and Excel.
